In course of the last years' conference “Educating the educators - Conference on international approaches to scaling-up professional development in maths and science education” (hosted as well by the project mascil coordinated at the University of Education Freiburg, and the DZLM) a meeting of European Professional Development centres involved in math and science education took place the first time. Aim of this meeting was to establish and support a European network of these centres. Main concern of the meetings is to provide a platform for sharing experiences between the centres who all have similar aims and agendas of substantially improving maths and science education as it happens day-to-day in schools, by investing in teacher professional development. This means to ensure that the design, provision and delivery of STEM professional development of the highest quality, research-based and corresponding to teachers’ needs. The network's aims and activities, as currently defined are geared towards supporting these goals.
As this first meeting has been a great success we initiated a second meeting of these centres in connection in May 2015 in Vilnius, Lithuania, a third meeting in December 2015 in Sofia, Bulgaria and the fourth meeting in June 2016 in Hradec Králové, Czech Republic. The fifth meeting will again take place in connection with the second Educating the Educators conference at the University of Education Freiburg, Germany.
Around 25 representatives of maths/science professional development centres and other organisations with similar aims like Ministries of Education from 12 European countries attended these meetings.
